The first day of the 2026 Sepang MotoGP Test already produced big headlines. Marc Marquez (Ducati Lenovo) returned in strong form and ended the day fastest, proving his late-2025 injury worries are gone. He set a best lap of 1:57.018.
The bad news was for Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha). He crashed at Turn 5, first passed initial checks, and even returned to the track to finish 9th. But later he still felt pain and said he has a broken finger, so he has decided to leave the test early and focus on recovery.
Behind Marquez, Fabio Di Giannantonio (VR46 Ducati) finished second, while Maverick Viñales (KTM Tech3) ended the day third.
Ducati also had positives, with Bagnaia finishing 8th but planning a race simulation on day two. Honda showed clear improvement too, with Marini and Mir both inside the top seven.
Yamaha now has a harder job without Quartararo, meaning Alex Rins, Jack Miller, and Toprak Razgatlioglu will carry most of the testing work going forward.
