Fernando Alonso has rejected claims that Aston Martin’s decision to make Adrian Newey the team principal for the 2026 season was due to poor performance this year.
Aston Martin recently announced that Newey, who joined earlier as managing technical partner, will take over from current team boss Andy Cowell in 2026 as the team’s leader. Alonso says the leadership change isn’t a reaction to results and that he was aware of discussions between team owner Lawrence Stroll and the leadership.
Newey’s move to team principal is part of Aston Martin’s broader restructuring ahead of the major rule changes in F1 next season.
