Ferrari struggled in qualifying at the Australian Grand Prix, finishing well off the fastest cars and not showing its real pace on Saturday.
However, in Sunday’s race in Melbourne the team’s performance was much better, with both cars running near the front and fighting for strong positions.
Team boss Fred Vasseur said the race result was a more accurate reflection of how fast the Ferrari is this season, even though there are still many upgrades to come.
Ferrari decided not to pit during a safety car period, which meant they couldn’t challenge for victory, but their pace showed they were closer to the leaders than qualifying suggested.
Vasseur also warned that performance could look very different at the next race in China, where the track and conditions are expected to be very different.
