Swedish driver Mattias Ekström claimed the fastest time in the 2026 Dakar Rally prologue held in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia, completing the 22 km course in 10 minutes 48.7 seconds.
His impressive run gave Ford a 1‑2 finish, with teammate Mitch Guthrie finishing just behind him.
The prologue served as an early indicator of performance for the rally, testing speed, precision, and vehicle handling over sandy and rocky terrain.
This strong start puts Ford in a favorable position heading into the longer, more challenging stages of the Dakar Rally.
Teams now prepare for the upcoming desert sections, where navigation, endurance, and strategy will play a crucial role.
Ekström’s early lead also boosts his confidence and sets a competitive tone for other drivers aiming to challenge the frontrunners in the 2026 edition.
