MotoGP Concessions Shrink Ducati Lead

In the 2025 MotoGP season, rivals were able to close the performance gap to Ducati largely because of the sport’s concession system, say Ducati’s Francesco Bagnaia and test rider Michele Pirro.

Under this system, Ducati — as the strongest team — faces more restrictions, such as limited private testing and no wildcard entries, while other manufacturers like Aprilia, Yamaha, Honda and KTM have had greater freedom to test and develop their bikes.

Although Ducati still won all three world championships in 2025, it was beaten more often than in 2024, and competitors have improved thanks to their concession advantages.

Both Bagnaia and Pirro believe the rules are working as intended by making the championship closer and more competitive.
