F1 Independence Over Manufacturer Demands

The FIA and Formula 1 leadership have agreed that the sport must prioritize its own long-term health over the specific demands of major automotive companies.

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem emphasized that while manufacturers are vital, the sport cannot become a “hostage” to their shifting corporate interests.

This stance comes amid ongoing discussions regarding the 2026 technical regulations, which aim to balance sustainable technology with exciting racing.

The governing body wants to ensure that if a major car brand decides to leave the grid, the championship remains stable and attractive to new entries.

Recent history, including the exit and return of brands like Honda, has reinforced the need for rules that serve the sport first rather than individual corporate agendas.

Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali echoed these sentiments, highlighting that the sport’s value is now strong enough to set its own strategic direction.

By maintaining this independence, officials hope to protect the competitive balance and entertainment value that have driven F1’s recent global growth.
