Formula 1 has introduced several immediate regulation tweaks ahead of the Miami Grand Prix to improve safety and the quality of racing.
The changes focus on energy management, reducing the maximum energy harvesting in qualifying from 8MJ to 7MJ to encourage more flat-out driving.
To address concerns about “lifting and coasting,” the “super-clipping” limit has been increased to 350kW, allowing batteries to recharge faster while at full throttle.
New safety measures include capping boost power at 150kW in certain zones to prevent dangerous closing speeds between cars.
A new “low power start detection” system will assist cars that struggle to accelerate off the line, activating warning lights to alert following drivers.
Wet-weather performance has also been improved by increasing tyre blanket temperatures for intermediates to provide better initial grip.
These adjustments follow feedback from drivers and teams after the season’s opening rounds in Australia, China, and Japan.
