Hamilton wants African GP

Lewis Hamilton has said he does not want to retire from Formula 1 until the sport returns to Africa and he gets the chance to race there.

The seven-time world champion explained that he has been pushing F1 leaders for several years to organize a race on the African continent.

Formula 1 has not held a race in Africa since the 1993 South African Grand Prix at the Kyalami circuit, leaving Africa as the only inhabited continent without an F1 event.

Hamilton said racing there would be very meaningful for him because he has African heritage and feels proud of his connection to the continent.

Possible locations that have been discussed for a future race include South Africa and Rwanda, but there is still no confirmed plan for when Africa will return to the Formula 1 calendar.
