Aston Martin Eyes Early DNF

Aston Martin Aramco F1 Team is facing a major reliability crisis with its new Honda power unit ahead of the 2026 Australian Grand Prix. Due to repeated engine failures and battery issues that badly disrupted their pre-season testing programme, the team may only run the minimum required laps to qualify and then retire the cars early in Melbourne rather than complete the full race distance.

The core problem behind their struggles is severe vibration from the Honda V6 engine, which is damaging the hybrid system’s battery and has left Aston Martin with limited spare parts and little track running before the season opener.

While there were talks about the team attempting to skip the race entirely under a force majeure claim, this would have caused regulatory and public relations issues, so the cars are still expected to appear on the grid — even if only briefly.

A crisis unit involving both Aston Martin and Honda personnel is now working to solve the issues, but with time running short, completing the full Australian Grand Prix remains uncertain unless reliability improves significantly before race day.
