Rainy Jerez Test Starts

The 2026 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship season began with the first private test at Jerez, but constant rain heavily reduced track running.

Even with limited laps, teams used the day to do basic checks, try new working setups, and gather early data ahead of the season opener in Australia next month.

Danilo Petrucci made the most of the wet conditions and set the fastest time on Day 1 with a 1:52.976 for the ROKiT BMW team.

Yari Montella was second, while Miguel Oliveira was third after completing 31 laps as he continued adjusting to the BMW M 1000 RR.

Stefano Manzi ended the day fourth after a steady start before conditions worsened later on.

Nicolo Bulega, last year’s runner-up, chose not to ride due to the poor weather.

Other notable runs included Jake Dixon (Honda) finishing ninth, Andrea Locatelli seventh and Xavi Vierge 12th for Pata Maxus Yamaha, and Alvaro Bautista eighth as he began work with his new team.

Bimota’s development program also continued, with Axel Bassani and test rider Xavi Fores sharing time on the KB998 Rimini.
