Ford’s F1 Timeline vs Audi

Ford and Audi are taking different approaches to entering Formula 1 under the new 2026 regulations. Ford has partnered with Red Bull Powertrains to deliver a competitive hybrid power unit right from its debut season, aiming to challenge at the front early. In contrast, Audi has set a longer‑term goal of fighting for a world championship around 2030, reflecting a more gradual development plan.

Ford Performance director Mark Rushbrook says the team is meeting its internal targets and believes the Red Bull‑Ford package can be competitive, but acknowledges the challenge of developing a new power unit from scratch. He stresses that Ford’s F1 commitment is not dependent on any single driver, including Max Verstappen, though having a four‑time world champion is valuable for feedback and team morale.

Rushbrook points out that 2026 will be difficult for all teams adapting to the new rules, and Ford wants to be in a position to fight for wins rather than build slowly. While keeping Verstappen beyond 2026 would be ideal, the company is focused on performance and results on track as the key factor in retaining top talent.
