Superbike Commission Decisions: The Superbike Commission met in October and November 2023 to discuss changes for the 2025 season. Here are the key decisions:
Sporting Regulations:
-
Minimum Age Exemption: Riders who finish in the top 3 of certain championships (like Supersport 300, Moto2™ European Championship, and others) can compete in the 2025 Supersport World Championship, even if they are under the usual minimum age of 17.
-
Insurance Policy: The insurance for the FIM and organizers will be increased to 10 million euros, except in the USA and Canada where it will be different.
-
Test Day Rules: New restrictions on testing will be introduced to reduce costs for teams in the WorldSBK class.
-
Yellow Flags Rules: Riders must slow down more when yellow flags are out for safety. Those who don’t may face harsher penalties.
-
Women’s Championship: The minimum qualifying time for the Women’s Circuit Racing World Championship will be 110% of the fastest rider’s time.
-
Race Interruptions: In the Women’s Championship, races started in dry conditions can be stopped if the track becomes wet.
-
Safety Equipment: New safety regulations will be introduced for all FIM classes, including the use of airbag suits for riders.
-
Electronic Platform: From 2025, teams must use an electronic platform for receiving official information during races, replacing the physical notice board.
Technical Regulations:
-
Fuel Flow Limit: The fuel flow for WorldSBK bikes will be limited to 47 Kg/H from 2025, with a tolerance of 2 grams per lap. This will be reviewed in 2026.
-
Superbike Kit Systems: The rules for the availability of Superbike Kit Systems, including stock requirements, will be updated.
-
Aerodynamics: WorldSBK bikes will have to follow similar rules to MotoGP™ for winglets and aerodynamics. They can’t deflect more than 10 mm under a certain pressure.
-
Frame Markings: New frame parts must be marked with a specific model code. The procedure for reading these markings will be announced before the season starts.
-
New Entry Class: A new entry class will be introduced in 2026 to replace the FIM Supersport 300 World Championship, discussed in detail with manufacturers.
-
Airbags: Airbag suits will continue to be mandatory, but from 2025, only Type 1 or Type 2 airbags (as per FIM standards) will be allowed.
-
Other Clarifications: Additional changes to the regulations will be detailed in the 2025 regulations.
These decisions were approved by the Permanent Bureau and will be in effect for the 2025 season.
The detailed 2025 FIM SBK Regulations will be available to view on the FIM website in the coming weeks HERE
