Drivers Frustrated With Engines

Lando Norris and Max Verstappen have continued to complain about the 2026 Formula 1 cars, saying drivers now feel controlled by the power unit rather than their own skill.

Norris explained that drivers often have little control over how energy is used, especially when using overtake modes during races.

He said the system can suddenly deploy battery power at the wrong time, forcing drivers to lift off the throttle and lose speed.

In one example, Norris managed to overtake a rival but then immediately lost the position again because his battery ran out of energy on the straight.

He believes this makes racing feel unfair, as drivers cannot fully control their cars and are instead dependent on how the system behaves.

Verstappen shares similar concerns, criticizing the heavy focus on energy management in the new regulations.

Both drivers feel that modern F1 is becoming less about pure driving skill and more about managing complex systems.

These ongoing complaints highlight growing frustration among drivers with how the 2026 rules are changing the nature of racing.
