Ferrari believes that upcoming Formula 1 engine rule changes will not be enough to stop Mercedes’ current advantage in the 2026 season.
From June, the FIA will introduce stricter tests on engine systems to close possible loopholes that may have helped Mercedes gain performance.
However, Ferrari team boss Frédéric Vasseur says these changes are unlikely to be a “game changer”, as performance differences are not only about the engine.
He explained that factors like energy management, car design, and overall setup also play a big role in performance, meaning Mercedes could still stay ahead.
Ferrari hopes to reduce the gap through future upgrades, but admits the team must improve in many areas, not just focus on engine rules.
