On Monday 19 February two groups of Instructors attended a workshop for the FIM Instructor Certificate in Lyon, France.
Taking place the day after the 2024 FIM Commissions Conference concluded, the first group of twelve instructors attended the first of the two Modules that comprise the FIM Instructor Certificate. The second and final Module was attended by fourteen instructors who then received the FIM certification from FIM Deputy CEO and Operations Director Mr Damiano Zamana.
A third group of ten instructors, who began the certification process in 2023, also attended an online Inter-Module Workshop in January.
In order to grow the FIM’s talent pool, the role of the Instructors is becoming even more crucial than ever and the three-year learning path that leads to the FIM Instructor Certificate, launched in 2022, is intended to strengthen the skills of Instructors in training with three main objectives.
• To provide tools to be impactful when presenting and preparing slides.
• Sharing experiences between FIM Commissions on how to run seminars.
• To bring Instructors up to date with the challenges of the modern age which include finding and retaining Officials and attracting a new generation of Officials who expect modern and dynamic seminars that utilise new technology.
Thanking the group for their work, Damiano Zamana quoted American journalist Sidney J Harris by stating “the whole purpose of education is to turn mirrors into windows.”
Mr Zamana went on to say: “The FIM Instructors are experienced in their disciplines and this learning path has been an opportunity to highlight that education should be like a window which helps to expand horizons, while a mirror only shows what you already know. The FIM Instructors are windows to the FIM world, there is a whole world out there full of other people with whom you can explore your views and ideas.”
