BMW has confirmed that the unusual BMW M3 GT3 Touring race car — originally shown as an April Fools’ joke online — will actually compete in the 2026 24 Hours of Nürburgring endurance race in Germany.
The special Touring model was developed after massive fan interest in the original April 1 post, and BMW built it with the same technical base as its M4 GT3 Evo but using the wagon‑style body.
It will race in the SPX class under the banner of Schubert Motorsport, and will be a unique spectacle alongside the more conventional GT3 entries at the legendary Nordschleife event.
Four factory‑backed BMW drivers are slated to share the car during the 24‑hour race, and the project marks a rare appearance of a touring wagon in top‑level endurance racing.
Fans and teams are excited to see the car in action, as it began life as a social‑media prank but was turned into a fully fledged racing machine in just months.
