IndyCar officials have penalized Alex Palou and Chip Ganassi Racing following a technical inspection failure after the Indianapolis 500.
The post-race inspection revealed that the front wing on Palou’s No. 10 Honda failed to meet the series’ minimum height requirements.
As a result of the infraction, Palou has been docked five championship driver points, while Chip Ganassi Racing faces a $10,000 fine.
Officials confirmed that the rule violation was caused by an unexpected assembly error and structural part failure rather than a deliberate attempt to cheat.
Because the modification was deemed unintentional, Palou will keep his seventh-place finishing position and retains his overall lead in the championship standings.
