Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli secured a massive victory at the 2026 Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix, heavily boosting his lead in the Drivers’ Championship.
The race featured an intense, wheel-to-wheel battle for the lead between the young Italian and his teammate, George Russell.The fierce competition peaked on Lap 24 when the two drivers briefly banged wheels at the final chicane.
However, the thrilling Mercedes duel came to an abrupt end on Lap 30. Russell’s car suffered a sudden power unit failure, forcing him to retire from the race while fighting at the front.A furious Russell was left out of the running, ending his hopes of taking his first victory since the opening race in Australia.
Following Russell’s retirement, Antonelli comfortably controlled the remainder of the race to cruise home and claim his fourth consecutive Grand Prix victory. With this win, the 19-year-old Antonelli has successfully extended his championship lead over Russell to 43 points. Behind him, Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen completed the podium positions.
