Toto Wolff has reportedly joined the race to buy a stake in the Alpine F1 Team, the same shares that Christian Horner is also interested in purchasing. The 24% stake is currently owned by Otro Capital and has attracted attention from several potential investors.
The possible investment has created another rivalry moment between Wolff and Horner, who were long-time competitors in Formula 1. However, the interest is mainly about business and strategy rather than personal competition.
For Horner, buying a share of Alpine could help him return to Formula 1 in a more senior role after leaving Red Bull Racing.
From Mercedes’ side, the deal could strengthen its relationship with Alpine, which already uses engines and gearboxes from Mercedes under a partnership running until 2030.
Alpine has confirmed that several parties are interested in the shares but has not commented on any specific names while the discussions continue.
