At the 2026 Formula 1 pre-season test in Bahrain, Mercedes narrowly set the fastest time, just ahead of McLaren in a close battle at the top of the timing sheets.
Mercedes driver George Russell posted the quickest lap, with McLaren’s Oscar Piastri right behind him, showing how competitive the field is early in testing.
However, Aston Martin again faced difficulties during the session, struggling with performance and car issues that limited their running and progress.
Other teams, including Red Bull and Ferrari, also encountered minor problems, but continued gathering data as they prepare for the season ahead.
The tests are helping teams fine-tune their cars and understand performance differences before the start of the 2026 championship.
