Takamoto Katsuta has taken an early lead at Rally Islas Canarias after winning the opening super special stage held inside a football stadium.
The Toyota driver finished the 1.89km course 1.4 seconds ahead of Hyundai’s Adrien Fourmaux to secure the top spot.
Toyota enjoyed a strong start to the event, with Katsuta’s teammate Sami Pajari setting the second-fastest time.

The stadium stage featured a head-to-head format, where Katsuta successfully defeated Fourmaux in their direct duel.
WRC2 contender Roberto Daprà surprised many by finishing third overall in his Škoda, outperforming several faster Rally1 cars.
Reigning world champion Sébastien Ogier tied for sixth place with Fourmaux, while championship rivals Elfyn Evans and Thierry Neuville shared eighth.
Following this opening show for the fans, the competition will move to six traditional asphalt stages covering 108 kilometres tomorrow.
