Oscar Piastri could not start the 2026 Australian Grand Prix after crashing his McLaren while driving to the starting grid before the race.
About 40 minutes before the race, Piastri left the pit lane for the usual lap to the grid when he suddenly lost control of his car at Turn 4. The car spun and hit the wall after running over the exit kerbs.
The crash caused serious damage to the front of his McLaren, including the right-front wheel and suspension, which meant he had to stop the car and could not continue.
Fortunately, Piastri was not injured and walked away from the crash site safely.
The Australian driver had qualified fifth for his home race and was supposed to start from the third row alongside teammate Lando Norris.
The incident disappointed many fans at the Melbourne circuit, especially those in the grandstand dedicated to supporting Piastri.
