Mercedes driver George Russell says the 2026 Bahrain pre‑season test was a “reality check” for his team after seeing Red Bull’s strong pace.
Russell believes Mercedes still has work to do to match Red Bull’s performance, as Red Bull appeared ahead on speed during the test.
He noted that while testing isn’t a perfect measure of race performance, the session showed where Mercedes currently stands compared with its rivals.
Russell says the team will use the data and testing experience to improve before the start of the season.
