FIM Medical Mentorship Africa

The FIM has taken an important step in its global mentoring programme by successfully hosting the FIM Medical Mentorship Training in Kenya.

The three-day event was held in Naivasha from December 12 to 14, 2025, alongside Round 2 of the Central African Challenge.

This programme was a landmark moment, as it was the first mentoring initiative ever delivered specifically at the level of an FIM Continental Union. It aimed to support long-term development and strengthen medical standards within African motorcycle sport.

Organised by the FIM Africa Medical Commission in partnership with the Motorcycle Sports Federation of Kenya, the training was led by Dr. Roberts Furmanis from the FIM Medical Commission. Medical professionals from several African countries took part, encouraging regional cooperation and shared learning.

The sessions focused on improving medical safety and preparedness at motorcycle racing events. Topics included FIM medical rules, trackside emergency response, trauma and concussion care, rider fitness assessments, return-to-race procedures, and mentorship methods suited to African conditions.

The programme created a strong foundation for consistent medical standards across Africa while allowing experienced professionals to mentor newer specialists. FIM officials highlighted that the initiative will help build a sustainable medical system that benefits riders, officials, and events across the continent.
