FIM Mentoring Transforms Indonesia Officials

The FIM Academy’s Mentoring Programme in Indonesia has successfully concluded a three-year project at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit, revolutionizing the training of officials and track marshals.

Launched in 2023, the program aimed to prepare the next generation of Clerks of the Course, Sector Chiefs, Race Control staff, and marshals, while helping the Indonesian Motorcycle Federation (IMI) build long-term training strategies and materials.

The initiative began with classroom and trackside training led by FIM Mentor Simon Maas, covering flag duties, radio communication, and Race Control management. Entry-level marshals received hands-on training before the Indonesian MotoGP™, and subsequent years incorporated real-world experience through the FIM Asia Road Racing Championship.

Later, a “Train the Trainer” approach ensured sustainability, enabling senior marshals to pass knowledge to new recruits. As a result, Mandalika now has a permanent Senior Officials structure, three Indonesian FIM CCR Superlicence holders, robust Chief Marshal and Sector Chief systems, and improved Race Control and Clerk of the Course roles.

Mentor Simon Maas praised the program’s success, highlighting the growth of Indonesia’s officials and the lasting legacy it leaves for the future of motorcycle racing in the country.
